Community standards are developed outside of the OGC and the originating party may continue to update their work; however, these document are fixed in content.
Abstract Specification documents are official positions of the OGC. The Abstract Specification provides the conceptual foundation for most OGC specification development activities. Open interfaces and protocols are built and referenced against the Abstract Specification, thus enabling interoperability between different brands and different kinds of spatial processing systems. The Abstract Specification provides a reference model for the development of OGC Implementation Standards.
Best Practice documents are official positions of the OGC, however, they are not standards and do not have the same level of OGC endorsement.
